Welcome to Home Counties Welsh Pony & Cob Association
The objectives of the Association as stated in our constitution are:
"To further the objectives of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society (the parent body) and to work in close co-operation therewith and to recruit membership thereto, and to operate or support or extend schemes of the parent body and to award premiums to breeders and to offer other incentives calculated to improve the Welsh Breeds and to promote and publication of the results thereof .." and it goes on for several pages! I'm sure a lawyer must have written it, because I am convinced they were never taught to put in the odd full stop or plain English at school!
Generally speaking we are, like all the other Associations, here to 'do our bit' to promote the Welsh breeds and the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. The Association covers the largely populated areas of Herts, Beds, Bucks, Berks, Middx and Greater London, which is the source of our membership. If you live outside the area you are still very welcome as an associate member and can enjoy all the advantages of full membership except for being able to vote at our meetings.
We have an Annual General Meeting every year and we combine the necessary association business with an entertaining talk or lecture along with light refreshments, as well as the presentation of our performance awards. It is also a good chance to meet everybody once again after, (hopefully) the worst of the winter has passed and we can start looking forward to the coming season.
So what are the benefits you can expect if you decide to joined us?
We
have a range of events throught the year starting with the
Winter Woollies show in January, This was started with the intention to help
people who have novice ponies, and to give them some experience
of a show environment early in the year We have introduced qualifiers for P(UK)
Winter Series
The home of our Spring show is Great Westwood Park (J 20 M25). This show on the 1st May Bank Holiday, hosts a range of In-Hand and Ridden classes for our Welsh breeds and part-breds with a variety of P (UK) Association and NPS Qualifiers.
The 2008 Summer Show will be a silver medal show in honour of the associations' 25th Anniversary. The Show to be held in August at the Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage, will host the usual Ridden and In Hand Classes as well as some new competitions including Driving! Details will be available shortly on the Schedule Page.
The Foal and Ridden Show in November is to be held, at Berks College of Agriculture. This is worth seeing, it is amazing how well behaved these babies are and very entertaining when they're not (unless you are the poor person on the other end of the leading rope)! We included some Winter series qualifiers to this show in 2001 and it proved popular with the competitors!
As a member you get schedules automatically sent to you and reduced entry fees at all of our shows, plus the chance to take away that wonderful cup or trophy you've just won!
A quarterly newsletter normally follows one of
our shows, it contains the results, news of forthcoming events
and adverts. If you would like to advertise, or if you would like
to contribute any news or stories please just send us an email at the usual
address..
As a member you are eligible to join our Performance Competition, where you can gain points at any of the shows you attend not just ours, see if you can beat last year's winner! We award double points at certain shows and TRIPLE points at our own so it's well worth coming along and joining in! We have prizes for all of the sections (including part-breds) split between in-hand and ridden, as well as specials for youngstock and geldings. These are awarded at the AGM.
